Førde densification study

Førde is a regional city of importance located in western Norway. The expected growth of Førde is estimated to be around 1000 housing units the next 10-15 years. There will also be a need for several thousand square meters of commercial space. The study shows that the city center has the capacity to serve the expected growth and more. Førde has an unique opportunity to evolve a concentrated development for the city. A sustainable strategy is to pursue a more dense city center where Land is saved, transport is reduced, pedestrian accessibility is improved and urban diversity increases.
By pursuing the development of a dense city center, the advises for sustainable growth given from scientific and political advisers on national and regional level are being pursued. It has to be defined which functions should be located in the city center and which ones should be elsewhere. Førde has the opportunity to invest in a concentrated area for development, to achieve a robust city- center within a reasonable time span.
