Textile factory and its transformation into a Cultural Centre

Les Faixes

Located in the former BCH textile factory, known as “Les Faixes” and built between 1920 and 1922. The factory was one of the pioneers in modernizing the local textile industry in the early 20th century. Today, the Les Faixes II project is set to be new home for culture and arts for Moià.

The intervention follows a strategy of selective emptying that keeps the building’s structural skeleton and its historic stone facade. New spaces are set inside it as “boxes within boxes,” with openings that bring in natural light, courtyards and vegetation. The new cultural centre complements Les Faixes I and includes an Italian-style theatre for nearly 480 spectators and a music school. The two funcions are designed to work independently but are joined by an exterior garden-cloister where new vegetation grows among the remains of the old structure.

Les Faixes II will connect Moià’s historic core with the new facilities area to the south, creating a new civic axis. It gives an abandoned industrial landmark a new life as a place for culture, education and community.
